Attention: Road Closures and Public Transport Interruptions on Sunday
On Sunday, 6.10.24, there will be a big running event (Marathon) in Cologne: streets will be blocked and trams don’t run as usual (7:00-16:00). If you are on the right side of the Rhine (Deutz, Mülheim, Poll, Porz) you don’t have to worry. If you are on the left side of the Rhine, please use these options to come to Bürgerhaus Kalk:
By public transport:
Use RB25, S12, S19 to Kalk Trimbornstraße (you cannot use Trams 1 or 9 properly on the left side of the Rhine).
By car:
Regarding the bridges, use the “Zoobrücke” or “Severinsbrücke” to cross to the right side of the Rhine (you cannot use “Deutzer Brücke”).
Plan ahead! The apps (DB, KVB) seem to be showing the right connections, but we are not sure about google maps.

Attention: Hugely increased traffic volume to get to the first Workshop on Saturday
On Saturday, 5.10.24, there will be a football game at the nearby stadium. Our first workshop and the game start at the same time, so there will be a lot of movement in the trams and the roads getting there! If you come…
By public transport:
Expect full trams and noisy football fans.
By car:
There will be much more traffic in the area and parking will probably be much more difficult than on Friday. Please check the opening hours of the parking lots as they might be tied to the game.
Either way: Plan more time to get to the location!

Besides leading and following: who are you on the dance floor?
We often worry so much about the steps during a dance and forget to express ourselves...
Knowing which movements communicate your personality and also which movements are uncomfortable for you can make each dance unique!
Requirements:
Good ability to develop open and closed dances in intermediate level steps.
DJ Caciassa (open level)
Catch the break
Adapting your basic step and a few other (simple!) movements to the different rhythms (Xote, Forró, Baião) to make sure you enjoy and exploit each break!
A down-to-earth tutorial from a DJ perspective.

Sheila (advanced)
Listening & speaking: the world of communication in partner dances
Choosing a partner dance is choosing to communicate!
The steps are our words... But are we really being able to express what we are feeling? Communicating, no matter what role you've chosen to dance, is the main skill we're going to develop in this class...
Requirements:
Good ability to develop open and closed dancing in advanced steps
Milena (open level)
Consent
Forró, in addition to dance, culture, music, art, is also an environment for relationships, exchanges and communications. One of the most transformative things I've been practicing for a few years is Consent. How can I communicate bodily and verbally in a clear, careful way, respecting my wishes and limits and, thus, respecting the wishes and limits of the people I dance with and exchange with? I invite you to this moment of practice, self-knowledge and lots of love for yourself and for everyone we dance life with!
Requirements:
Open for everybody
Saturday Workshops
13:15-14:15

Milena & Mardio (advanced)
Advanced flow
How can we flow on the dance even when we are doing advanced movements? Self knowledge, connection, dialogue, techniques and skills. Let's flow with it!
Requirements:
Must not have difficulty with weight transfer, 3 and 5 step turns, and basic movements of Forró Roots style: caminhadas, simple break / trava, paulista turns.
Sheila & Marília (intermediate)
Slow songs:
Balancing technique & feeling
Many people think that dancing to fast songs is much more difficult than slow ones... But dancing to slow songs with quality, control and feeling requires special skills...
Come and find out which these skills are with our class!
Requirements:
Be comfortable developing a close embrace dance with leg contact. Have a basic body repertoire (small waves or hip movements). Have repertoires like 5-step turns and Paulista turns.
Ícaro (open level)
We all have a bit of Brazil inside of us
A cultural perspective on how we can access typical Brazilian vibes and movements to apply in Forró parties.
Requirements:
Bring energy and excitement
DJ Vim Vim (open level)
The history of Forró in Europe - through records
Atila Alves, also known as DJ Vim Vim has been teaching Forró since 2010 in Europe. As a record enthusiast, he has gained a reputation as a profound Vinyl-DJ with a wide ranging repertoire of Brazilian tunes. In this deep dive into history, he will show us how early recordings of traditional Forró underwent changes throughout the years. Listen to iconic melodies, while learning more about Brazilian culture!
14:45-15:45
at SPOHO
Milena & Mardio (intermediate)
Dancing with the whole body
Our bodies are a sea of possibilities, so let's take advantage of it! In this class we will experiment different movements, exploring times of markings, body movements and contacts.
Here the idea is to be aware to choose!
Requirements:
Must not have difficulty with weight transfer and the basics
of Forró Universitário and Roots styles.

Guidelines for a Pleasant Festival
We care about you and expect that you care about others
We want a safe, welcoming and respectful space for every participant to enjoy - regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, physical appearance, body size, age, skin color or dance ability. As a community we agree on the following guidelines* :
Respect your fellow dancers
• Gender does not imply dance role.
• Be aware of what others want or don’t want.
• Persistent unwanted attention, on or off the dance floor, is unacceptable.
• Please do not offer unsolicited advice on the dance floor.
It’s OK to say no
• Personal space and boundaries must always be respected.
• When giving or receiving a dance request, it is always okay to say ''no" without any reason.
• If someone turns you down for a dance, take the "no" with respect. And seek for another dance partner.
• Consenting to dance does not mean to consent to anything else.
• Consent can change over time.
• Everything after a “no” is considered harassment and will not be tolerated.
Body awareness
It is every dancer’s responsibility to be aware of their own and their partner’s movement and position as well as that of the dancers surrounding them to avoid collisions.
Communicate with your dance partners
• Use respectful language: it’s not welcomed to make sexual/discriminating comments or jokes.
• Anyone can ask or invite for a dance, be aware that this request needs an answer before you start dancing.
• Dips and lifts: Ask your dance partner.
• Accidental swiping/touching of sensitive body parts: apologize.
• If you have an injury or something hurts, tell your partner.
• It’s ok to stop a dance at any time, also during a song/set: Sometimes the live bands or DJ sets last long.
• Everyone is free to flirt, but there are respectful ways to do so. If your flirting is not welcome, let it go.
Personal care and hygiene
Remember we are dancing closely with people. Good hygiene will make the dance more comfortable for everyone. You know your body. Deodorant is in the Bathroom, feel free to use it. Breath mints are appreciated.
Let's talk!
